A Brandt's Cormorant returned to its nest with a bundle of surfgrass gathered from Monterey bay. I watched from a walkway above the cliff where the colony was nesting, leaning on the railing with a long lens as the bird flew in toward its nesting site. I intentionally slowed shutter speed to add a soft blur to the wings as it approached, capturing both the motion of its flight and the focused effort of building its nest on the cliffside.
